President Bola Tinubu has begun a three-week vacation in Europe, with the Presidency saying the President needs to recharge after months of intensive work on national affairs.
The explanation was provided by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, during a briefing with journalists on Sunday.
Dare said Tinubu had spent the last several months dealing with important issues affecting the country, particularly in the areas of security and economic management.
He described the period as one in which the President had taken several major decisions while overseeing the affairs of the nation.
According to the presidential spokesman, Tinubu’s break also comes at a significant time on the political calendar, with preparations for the 2027 elections beginning to intensify.
Dare said the President would face several months of demanding political activities as the campaign season gathers momentum.
Despite the vacation, he said governance would continue and Tinubu would remain connected to developments in government.
The Presidency believes the break will give the President an opportunity to rest before returning to another busy period involving both governance and political engagements.
Tinubu departed Abuja on Sunday to begin the annual leave, which is expected to last approximately three weeks.
The announcement has attracted public attention because of its timing ahead of the 2027 elections, but the Presidency maintains that the trip is primarily an opportunity for the President to recover from an extended period of intense official responsibilities.
