The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it has strengthened its organisational structure ahead of the 2027 general elections, with National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda declaring that the ruling party is prepared for the next electoral contest.
Yilwatda spoke in Maiduguri, Borno State, following a three-day retreat involving members of the APC National Working Committee and other party stakeholders.
The meeting focused on the party’s organisation, internal unity and electoral readiness ahead of the 2027 polls.
Yilwatda said the APC had assessed its structures from the national level through the states, local government areas and wards to polling-unit level.
He described the outcome of the assessment as positive and said the party was ready to intensify its activities ahead of the elections.
Reconciliation Takes Centre Stage
One of the major issues discussed during the retreat was reconciliation within the party.
The APC leadership called for reconciliation committees to be established where necessary at state, local government and ward levels.
The move is aimed at addressing disagreements within the party and strengthening cooperation among members ahead of the election.
Yilwatda said the NWC would also play a more direct role in the party’s campaign and in communicating the administration’s policies and programmes to Nigerians.
APC Chairman Talks About Opposition
On the emerging opposition challenge, Yilwatda said he did not regard the opposition parties as a major electoral threat to the APC.
He described parties such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as participants in the 2027 election rather than serious competitors to the ruling party.
The statement reflects the APC leadership’s confidence as the 2027 political contest gathers momentum.
However, the election remains ahead, and political parties across the country are continuing to organise their campaigns, build alliances and mobilise supporters.
Party Backs Tinubu-Shettima Ticket
The APC’s strategic retreat also resulted in a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and other candidates produced by the party’s primary elections.
The party leadership said it would continue its mobilisation and reconciliation efforts as preparations for the 2027 general elections progress.
