Air Peace has provided an explanation for recent disruptions involving its flights from Abuja, saying a shortage of Jet A1 aviation fuel initially delayed operations before weather conditions affected the Abuja-Maiduguri service.
The airline’s statement followed the circulation of videos on social media showing passengers expressing frustration over the delays.
Air Peace said the shortage of aviation fuel affected several airlines operating at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
According to the carrier, operations resumed once fuel became available and affected flights were able to commence their journeys.
Why Maiduguri Service Could Not Leave
The airline said the Abuja-Maiduguri flight faced a different challenge after an extension had been granted to allow the service to operate.
However, Air Peace said conditions had changed by the time the aircraft was ready for boarding.
It explained that the prevailing Visual Flight Rules conditions meant the extension was no longer viable because the aircraft could not operate beyond sunset.
The flight therefore could not proceed as scheduled.
Air Peace said arrangements were subsequently made for the affected service to operate the following day.
Airline Apologises to Passengers
The airline said passengers were informed about the developments during the disruption and were provided with refreshments.
Passengers affected by the cancellation were also offered hotel accommodation, according to Air Peace.
The airline apologised for the inconvenience caused by the disruption and thanked passengers for their patience.
Air Peace maintained that passenger safety remains a priority and said operational decisions would continue to be guided by safety considerations.
The latest disruption comes amid continued attention on flight delays and cancellations across Nigeria’s aviation sector.
