The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged as the winner of all 17 local government chairmanship contests in Yobe State following the September 26 council elections.
The results were formally announced by the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission on Sunday at its headquarters in Damaturu.
YSIEC Chairman, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Yabani, announced that APC candidates won the chairmanship positions in each of the state’s 17 local government areas.
The election involved 10 political parties and was conducted across 178 electoral wards.
APC Records 176 Councillorship Wins
Beyond the chairmanship results, the APC recorded 176 victories out of the 178 councillorship seats.
According to the results announced by the electoral commission, the Action Democratic Party won one councillorship position in Karasuwa, while the All Peoples Party secured one seat in Fune.
This means opposition parties gained representation at the ward level despite the APC winning every chairmanship position.
How the Results Were Declared
Yabani explained that the councillorship results were first declared at the respective ward collation centres.
The chairmanship results were subsequently announced at local government collation centres before the final results were formally presented by the state electoral commission.
The election took place across all 17 local government areas following weeks of preparations by YSIEC.
Earlier in the election process, the commission said it had distributed sensitive and other electoral materials to the various local government areas and engaged political parties and security agencies ahead of the poll.
Result Comes After Saturday’s Poll
The final declaration came on Sunday, one day after voting took place across the state.
The result gives the APC control of all 17 elected local government chairmanship positions in Yobe, while APP and ADP secured one councillorship seat each.
