The Edo State Government is stepping up efforts to expand electricity generation in the state following the approval and issuance of licences for a 100MW power project.

The project is expected to play a role in addressing electricity challenges facing residents and businesses while supporting the state’s growing industrial and commercial activities.

According to the state government, the project has a December completion target, putting pressure on contractors and stakeholders to maintain the pace of work.

The planned power capacity could provide an important boost to Edo’s electricity supply, particularly for businesses that currently rely heavily on generators because of unreliable public power.

For small and medium-sized enterprises, improved electricity supply could translate into lower operating costs and longer working hours. Larger industries could also benefit from a more dependable energy supply for production and other operations.

The development comes at a time when Nigeria is seeking new approaches to expand electricity generation and improve access to power across different parts of the country.

Edo’s move to advance the 100MW project reflects the growing role of state governments in developing electricity infrastructure and attracting investment into the sector.

Successful delivery of the project could strengthen the state’s energy position and support wider economic activity.

With December set as the target for completion, residents and businesses will be watching closely to see how quickly the project progresses and when the additional power capacity becomes available.
