The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that it is conducting an internal investigation into the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Moshood Jimoh, following allegations made by social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
According to the police, the senior officer has been invited for questioning as part of an administrative review, while the criminal case connected to the allegations is already before a court of competent jurisdiction.
Police Invite VeryDarkMan to Provide Evidence
The Force also disclosed that VeryDarkMan has been asked to appear before investigators to provide evidence supporting the allegations he made against the senior police officer.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the police said it was necessary to clarify the status of both the ongoing judicial proceedings and the internal disciplinary process involving the matter.
The statement explained that the criminal case had been thoroughly investigated before being forwarded to the court based on legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Police Say Court Will Decide Criminal Case
The Force stressed that because the matter is already before the court, it would not comment on issues that could interfere with the judicial process or influence the outcome of the trial.
Police authorities also emphasized that the case would not be determined through media reports or public opinion but through the legal process.
Internal Accountability Process Underway
While the court handles the criminal proceedings, the Nigeria Police Force said its internal accountability mechanisms remain active.
According to the statement, the Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (Force CID) has formally invited AIG Moshood Jimoh for questioning over the allegations.
The police further revealed that the Force CID headquarters in Abuja had earlier invited VeryDarkMan on July 30, 2026, to assist investigators with information relating to his claims.
The Force reiterated its commitment to investigating all credible allegations of misconduct, regardless of the rank of the officer involved or the public profile of the complainant, using its established disciplinary and investigative procedures.
