Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad may come face-to-face in Osun State as political campaigns intensify ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The renewed political rivalry follows a heated exchange between the duo on social media after President Bola Tinubu held a telephone conversation with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle.
Celebrating the call, Davido posted on his X account that he had witnessed the moment firsthand.
“I was there live! I witnessed history,” the singer wrote.
Bashir Ahmad responded by saying he had bookmarked Davido’s post, suggesting that the singer would later return to the platform to express disappointment after the governorship election.
Davido fired back by ridiculing Ahmad over his performance in a recent APC primary election, where the former presidential aide reportedly secured just 16 votes.
The singer also accused Ahmad of failing to make a meaningful impact on his community despite serving in government for several years.
In a subsequent post, Ahmad announced that he would be in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, from Tuesday, August 11, to participate in the APC’s governorship campaign activities.
“I will be in Osogbo from August 11, David,” Ahmad wrote.
The exchange has further heightened political excitement ahead of the governorship election, with campaigns entering their final stretch.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is backing its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, while incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is contesting on the platform of the Accord Party, continues to seek a fresh mandate from voters.
Both camps have intensified rallies and grassroots mobilisation as the countdown to the August 15 governorship poll gathers momentum.
