The Accord Party’s Osun State chapter has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is bringing in and sheltering hackers to alter election results at a hotel in Osogbo, Osun State. They are urging security agencies to promptly intervene and apprehend those purportedly participating in this unlawful activity.
These claims were outlined in a statement issued from Osogbo, signed by Victor Akande, the State Chairman of the Accord Party. The party indicates that credible reports suggest these hackers intend to infiltrate the digital system of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with plans to modify election results in Osun.
In reply, Kola Olabisi, the spokesperson for Osun’s APC, rejected these allegations and expressed confidence in securing victory in the upcoming election without engaging in fraudulent activities. Olabisi implied that the Accord Party’s accusations arise from a fear of possible defeat.
Accord stated that hackers based in Lagos and Abuja had set up an operational hub at the hotel to manipulate INEC’s electronic system with false results. The party encouraged INEC to strengthen its digital security measures and called on law enforcement agencies to take action at GMT Hotel and other potential sites to prevent any anti-democratic activities.
Accord emphasized its preparedness for the August 15 elections, expressing a strong commitment to rally voters. It urged INEC to stay alert in protecting its digital systems from manipulation and warned that any interference with the election process would encounter public opposition.
The APC dismissed the allegations as baseless, encouraging voters to ignore these claims. The party stated that there is no validity to accusations of sheltering hackers and viewed them as an effort to damage its reputation. Additionally, the APC advised that any concerns from the Accord Party should be reported to police instead of fueling rumors.
According to Newworldtimes, as the election week nears, Accord Party supporting incumbent governor Ademola Adeleke and APC with its candidate Bola Oyebamiji are leading among the 14 political parties approved by INEC for the elections.
