The Kebbi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Augie as the new running mate for Governor Nasir Idris in the upcoming 2027 governorship election.
This announcement took place on Sunday at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi, delivered by the APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, during a visit by Argungu Emirate stakeholders to the governor.
Argungu highlighted that the decision to replace the current Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida Arugungu, stemmed from legal advice concerning his eligibility to run as Governor Idris’ running mate in the 2027 election.
He stated that the Deputy Governor was replaced based on professional legal guidance. Argungu then proceeded to announce Ibrahim Muhammad Augie as the new running mate for this electoral cycle.
Reassurance from the APC
The APC National Organising Secretary emphasized that Senator Tafida’s agreement was part of the decision-making process, countering any rumors of discord between the governor and his deputy. He encouraged APC members, political figures, and supporters across Kebbi State to embrace this change and foster unity as they look towards the 2027 election.
Governor Nasir Idris also dismissed any claims of a political rift with his current deputy. He reassured party supporters of his dedication to work closely with his new running mate, while urging everyone to remain focused on the development of Kebbi State.

Ibrahim Muhammad Augie previously served as Commissioner for Finance in Kebbi State under former Governor Atiku Bagudu and hails from the Augie Local Government Area.
