Over 200 professors and academic staff are reported to have left Kaduna State University (KASU) due to unfavorable working conditions and the alleged non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government–ASUU Agreement, according to the university’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter.
The union has given university authorities and relevant stakeholders a two-week ultimatum to begin full implementation and integration of the agreement. They warned that failing to act may lead to a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike.
ASUU-KASU Chairman, Abubakar Abdullahi, shared these details on Monday during a press conference at the union’s secretariat at Kaduna State University.
Abdullahi stated that although the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement, which aims to enhance service conditions for academic staff in Nigerian universities, became effective in January 2026, it has yet to be implemented at KASU.
He mentioned that the union has sent numerous letters to the university management, Governing Council, the university’s Visitor, and the Kaduna State Government, urging them to incorporate and enact the agreement in accordance with the institution’s governing laws.
The union has also engaged with various stakeholders both within and outside Kaduna State to resolve the issue and maintain industrial peace.
Abdullahi noted that eight months after the agreement was signed, KASU has yet to initiate its implementation, whereas several other federal and state universities have either started implementing it or set timelines for implementation, including addressing outstanding arrears.
