Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after his victory in the August 15, 2026, governorship election.
He collected the certificate on Wednesday at the INEC office in Osogbo, welcomed by enthusiastic supporters and members of the Accord Party. The governor celebrated with a dance, expressed gratitude to his supporters, and then headed to the Ataoja Palace, which was surrounded by a welcoming crowd.
INEC announced Adeleke as the election winner after he garnered 511,067 votes, defeating Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 444,815 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, garnered 17,180 votes.
Adeleke successfully won in 19 out of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji claimed victory in the remaining 11 LGAs. This result grants Adeleke another four-year term as state governor.
Upon receiving his Certificate of Return, Adeleke described the election result as a triumph for democracy and reiterated his commitment to fulfilling promises made to the people of Osun. He emphasized that his second term will focus on transitioning the state’s economy from one primarily reliant on the civil service to a more vibrant and industrialized economy.
Following his re-election, Adeleke has been congratulated by President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, and other political leaders. The Certificate of Return officially confirms Adeleke’s mandate for another term as Osun State governor.
