The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has indicated plans to establish a significant coalition in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid for 2027. This statement followed a meeting in Abuja with journalists on Friday, shortly after a visit from Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Wike mentioned that Governor Adeleke has aligned himself with the ruling All Progressives Congress, hinting that opposition parties might face challenges in contesting against Tinubu in the upcoming presidential election.
Anticipated Strong Support for Tinubu
Wike urged Nigerians to stay attentive as political events unfold over the coming weeks, anticipating the emergence of a robust coalition backing President Tinubu.
“In the next few weeks, watch what is going to happen. You will see the largest rainbow coalition supporting President Tinubu,” he remarked.
He suggested that the 2027 election might turn out to be straightforward for Tinubu, arguing that opposition parties could struggle to hinder his re-election.
These comments arise amid shifting political alliances as parties and influential figures strategize for the 2027 general elections.
Adeleke’s Visit Sparks Political Interest
Adeleke’s visit to Wike in Abuja, accompanied by his nephew, Afrobeats star Davido, has heightened political interest. This visit followed Adeleke receiving his Certificate of Return after winning another term as Osun State governor.
Although Adeleke remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, reports indicate his support for President Tinubu.
Challenges for Opposition Amid Political Realignments
As opposition politicians and parties work towards forming a broad coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Wike’s remarks emerge. This proposed alliance aims to gather support for Tinubu by uniting politicians and groups from various parties and ideologies.
The specific makeup of this coalition and its participants have yet to be officially detailed. Wike’s prediction of an easy victory remains speculative, as opposition parties will likely develop their own strategies and coalitions approaching the 2027 election.
The political landscape is expected to remain dynamic in the coming months, with parties, governors, and key political players making strategic preparations for the presidential race.
