Presidency Raises Concern Over Possible Terrorist Sympathisers Within Nigerian Army, Police

The Presidency has expressed concern over the possibility that terrorist collaborators or sympathisers may have infiltrated Nigeria’s security agencies, including the Armed Forces and the Nigeria Police Force.

The warning was issued amid renewed efforts by the Federal Government to combat terrorism, banditry, and other forms of violent crime across the country. According to the Presidency, the persistence of security breaches and intelligence leaks has heightened concerns that criminal elements may be receiving assistance from insiders.

Officials noted that while the overwhelming majority of military and police personnel remain dedicated to protecting the nation, the government cannot rule out the existence of a few individuals who may be working with or providing information to terrorist groups.

The Presidency stressed that security agencies are continuously reviewing their internal operations, strengthening intelligence gathering, and implementing measures to identify and remove any personnel found to be collaborating with criminal or terrorist organisations.

It reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding national security and maintaining the integrity of the country’s security institutions. Authorities also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, cooperate with law enforcement agencies, and report suspicious activities that could aid ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

Security experts have long argued that addressing insider threats is critical to the success of Nigeria’s fight against insurgency and terrorism, particularly in regions that have experienced prolonged attacks by armed groups.

The government reiterated that any officer found to be aiding terrorists or compromising national security would face the full weight of the law, while assuring citizens that efforts to restore peace and strengthen public confidence in the nation’s security architecture remain a top priority.
