A Nigerian mother has narrated the heartbreaking experience of learning that her son had allegedly lost one of his kidneys, amid a police investigation into suspected illegal organ harvesting.
The mother said she was unaware of what had happened until information about her son’s condition eventually came to light.
According to her account, the circumstances surrounding her son’s movement to a medical facility and the procedure he underwent raised serious questions for the family.
She alleged that the family was not properly informed before the kidney removal and only discovered the situation afterwards.
Her account has emerged as investigators intensify efforts to uncover the activities of a suspected organ-harvesting network allegedly operating in Abuja and parts of Nasarawa State.
The investigation is focusing on how young and vulnerable people were allegedly approached, the promises made to them and the individuals who may have facilitated their movement to medical facilities.
The case has also renewed public discussion about the importance of informed consent in medical procedures and the need to protect vulnerable people from exploitation.
Families affected by the allegations are now seeking answers, while law enforcement authorities work to establish the facts and identify everyone who may have been involved.
The investigation is ongoing, and the allegations against individuals or organisations involved have yet to be established in court.
