The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Adamu Musa, over allegations that he impersonated a senior police officer and collected money from members of the public by claiming he could secure police recruitment slots.
Musa, who resides in Kureken Sani Quarters, Kano, was arrested on September 1, 2026, by operatives attached to the Panshekara Police Division following intelligence received by the command.
The arrest was confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement issued to journalists.
According to the police, officers were alerted by the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Challawa, at about 7:30pm. Operatives were subsequently deployed to the area, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
Preliminary investigations reportedly showed that Musa allegedly presented himself as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and claimed to have connections that could influence police recruitment, transfers and postings.
The police further alleged that he relied on edited photographs and artificial intelligence-generated images showing him alongside senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to make his claims appear genuine.
Through the alleged scheme, Musa reportedly convinced unsuspecting individuals that he could help them obtain recruitment opportunities or facilitate transfers and postings in return for payments.
During a search of his residence, police said officers recovered two black jacket uniforms, two pairs of black shoes, a camouflage uniform, a blue uniform top and N300,000 in cash.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
The command said Musa would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.
