The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its ongoing passport intervention programme in the United Kingdom after thousands of Nigerians showed strong interest in the exercise.
The special exercise in London and Manchester has been extended from September 19 to October 3, 2026, giving more eligible applicants additional time to complete the process.
The decision followed a significant turnout during the opening days of the intervention.
Over 1,400 Applicants Enrolled
The NIS disclosed that 1,477 Nigerians had been successfully processed and enrolled within the first four days of the programme.
The agency added that passports for more than half of the people already enrolled had been produced and dispatched to their addresses.
The extension was approved by the Service under the directive of Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
According to the NIS, the additional two weeks are intended to increase the number of applicants that can be accommodated at the two centres.
The Service urged Nigerians who qualify for the intervention to make appointments through the Nigerian High Commission in the UK and ensure they arrive with all required documents.
These include the completed application form, payment receipt, appointment confirmation, current passport where applicable, and a self-addressed return envelope.
No Extra Charges
The Immigration Service also reminded applicants that the passport process remains cashless and automated.
It stressed that applicants should not make any additional payment beyond the applicable passport fees.
The current fees are $162 for a five-year passport and $242 for a 10-year passport.
The NIS said additional information about the extended programme, participating locations and appointment procedures would be announced through its official channels and those of the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom.
The Service encouraged applicants to rely only on official information when making appointments and payments.
