Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has died in the United Kingdom at the age of 77.
Idris reportedly died on Sunday, September 20, 2026.
News of his death prompted condolence visits from political leaders and government officials in Abuja.
Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, former Governor Yahaya Bello, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Abdullahi Bello, and other officials visited the family of the late former governor.
The visit took place at Idris’ Abuja residence.
Officials visit family
Onogwu Muhammed, Special Adviser to Governor Ododo on Public Relations and Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Yahaya Bello, announced the condolence visit in a Facebook post.
He shared photographs showing Ododo and Bello at the residence of the late former governor.
The visit came shortly after news of Idris’ death emerged.
Idris governed Kogi for two terms
Ibrahim Idris served as governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
He first assumed office in May 2003.
He later returned for a second term and remained in office until January 2012.
Idris was succeeded by Captain Idris Wada.
His political career made him one of the prominent figures in Kogi State’s political history.
Condolences begin
Tributes have begun to emerge following the former governor’s death.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the National Assembly, also mourned Idris.
She described his death as a significant loss and acknowledged his place in the political history of Kogi State.
