Nigerian gospel singer Asu Ekiye has announced that his 28-year marriage to his wife, Kunemofa Asu, has ended.
The Bayelsa-born musician, popularly known as the “Prince of the Niger Delta,” made the announcement on Thursday through a statement posted on his Facebook page.
In the message titled “Public Notice,” Ekiye described the marriage as a deeply personal chapter marked by growth, experiences and reflection.
He revealed that the marriage officially ended about a year ago but said he deliberately waited before making the information public.
According to the gospel artist, the decision to delay the announcement was intended to give him enough time to process the transition and gain clarity about the next phase of his life.
“I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to KUNEMOFA ASU has come to an end, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season,” Ekiye said.
Singer Keeps Reason for Divorce Private
Ekiye did not disclose the circumstances that led to the end of the marriage.
Instead, he described the decision as a deeply personal matter and said he had chosen to speak publicly only after allowing sufficient time for reflection and acceptance.
“This marriage ended a year ago,” he stated, explaining that he wanted to approach the announcement with the perspective and quiet acceptance required for such a personal transition.
The announcement marks the public end of a marriage that lasted 28 years, while Ekiye now looks ahead to what he described as a “new season.”
