Nigeria’s Super Falcons delivered an impressive performance, defeating Egypt 6-2 to advance to the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
As reigning champions, Nigeria needed a win in this crucial Group C match to keep their title defense on track. They responded with a dominant display, overpowering the Pharaohs Women by scoring six goals.
The scoring was initiated by Asisat Oshoala in the 21st minute with a penalty, and Gift Monday extended the lead just before the half-time whistle. Egypt managed to pull one back through Nadine Ghazi’s penalty, ending the half at 2-1.
After the break, Nigeria tightened their grip on the match. Uchenna Kanu restored their two-goal lead, followed by Christy Ucheibe netting from another penalty. Ghazi scored again for Egypt, but their hopes of a comeback faded.
Rasheedat Ajibade converted yet another penalty in stoppage time, and Joy Omewa capped off the victory with Nigeria’s sixth goal, sealing a commanding 6-2 triumph.
This win secures Nigeria’s advancement to the WAFCON quarter-finals as they aim for an eleventh African title. Next, they will face Cameroon in the quarters, with progression to the semi-finals and another step towards the championship in sight.
