Six people held by suspected kidnappers have been rescued by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA during a security operation in Zamfara State, while a separate military assault in neighbouring Sokoto State left a suspected terrorist dead.
The operations took place across the two North-West states on Saturday, September 26, according to the Joint Task Force North West.
In a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the task force’s Media Information Officer, the military said its personnel also recovered weapons and other items during the operations.
Gunmen flee after troops arrive
In Zamfara, soldiers responded to intelligence concerning an alleged attempt to kidnap members of the Sarkin Samari’s family in Tsafe Local Government Area.
The troops reportedly engaged the suspected terrorists after reaching the area.
Faced with the military’s firepower, the attackers withdrew into surrounding bushes, according to the statement.
Six kidnapped persons were recovered during the operation and taken to a safe location.
The Joint Task Force said arrangements would be made for the victims to be reunited with their families.
Suspected terrorist camp attacked in Sokoto
Meanwhile, troops operating under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA carried out an assault on a location in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation followed intelligence indicating the presence of a suspected terrorist camp in the area.
The military said its personnel encountered an isolated suspected terrorist at the location and neutralised him.
Items recovered included an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, a foreign military uniform, clothing and other materials.
The latest operations come as security agencies continue military operations against terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes across parts of the North-West.
The Joint Task Force said it remains committed to safeguarding residents and their property across the region.
It also urged members of the public to maintain cooperation with security agencies by supplying credible information about suspected terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal elements operating within their communities.
