President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently address the poor conditions of the Benin-Agbor-Asaba and Ifaki-Kabba-Ado Ekiti roads, following widespread concerns about their deterioration and the challenges faced by motorists.

This directive was announced by Francis Nwaze, spokesperson for the Minister of Works, David Umahi, on Tuesday.

Nwaze reported that Umahi expressed alarm over the state of these roads, pointing out that drivers have been experiencing lengthy delays, sometimes lasting hours or even days, as they struggle to traverse these routes.

President Tinubu Commands Immediate Action

Umahi conveyed that President Tinubu has mandated the Ministry of Works to swiftly act to facilitate movement and alleviate the hardships road users are enduring.

“President Tinubu has ordered the Federal Ministry of Works to ensure immediate intervention to restore traffic flow on these critical roads as soon as possible,” stated Umahi.

The minister highlighted that preparations are already underway to implement the President’s directive.

Minister of State Oversees Ekiti-Kogi Road Efforts

As part of their rapid response, Umahi has tasked the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, to lead a team of ministry officials into the Ifaki-Kabba-Ado Ekiti area.

This team is responsible for evaluating the road’s condition and starting necessary repair work.

Officials were reported to have arrived on-site as early as 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, to initiate these efforts.

This action aims to provide quick relief to motorists and communities affected by the deteriorating conditions of this vital road connecting Ekiti and Kogi states.

Umahi Travels to Benin for Benin-Agbor-Asaba Road Solutions

While the intervention group is active in Ekiti and Kogi states, Umahi himself has travelled to Benin City, Edo State, along with members of the National Assembly Works Committees, to launch similar efforts on the Benin-Agbor-Asaba road.

This strategic corridor has posed significant challenges for drivers, leading to urgent appeals for government intervention.

The meeting in Benin is set to include representatives from the Edo and Delta State Governments and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

These stakeholders plan to discuss immediate strategies to improve the road’s condition and ensure smoother passage along this key transport route.

Government Pursues Quick Relief for Road Users

The Federal Government’s initiative focuses on tackling the immediate issues plaguing motorists while contemplating long-term solutions.

These two roadways are crucial for commuters, businesses, and goods transportation, making their status a serious concern for local residents and transport operators.

The Ministry of Works has committed to continuing its efforts to implement necessary corrective actions as swiftly as possible.
