The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has resumed the loading of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, in naira, ending a temporary period of uncertainty in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum market.

The refinery reportedly fixed its new ex-depot (gantry) petrol price at ₦1,215 per litre, representing an increase from the previous loading price of ₦1,075 per litre.

The development comes after concerns among fuel marketers and consumers over changes in the refinery’s sales arrangement and the impact of rising global crude oil prices on domestic petrol pricing.

Industry operators said the adjustment could influence petrol prices at filling stations nationwide, as marketers factor in depot costs, transportation expenses, and other operational charges before determining retail prices.

The Dangote Refinery, located in Lagos, has become a major supplier in Nigeria’s petroleum market, with its operations expected to reduce the country’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products and strengthen local refining capacity.

Energy analysts say price movements will continue to depend on factors including international crude oil prices, foreign exchange conditions, logistics costs, and competition among fuel suppliers.

The latest development is being closely monitored by motorists, transport operators, and businesses, who are concerned about the impact of petrol prices on transportation costs and the wider economy.
