The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reiterated its commitment to due process, institutional discipline and the rule of law amid the controversy involving social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Lagos, AIG Moshood Jimoh.

In a statement published on its official X account on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi (or the serving spokesperson, if applicable), said the criminal matter referenced by VeryDarkMan had already been investigated and was currently before a court following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The police explained that because the case is now before a court of competent jurisdiction, its outcome will be determined by the judiciary.

“The Force will not try this case in the media, nor will it allow its outcome to be shaped by public campaigns or commentary seeking to prejudge the officers or parties involved,” the statement said.

AIG Invited for Questioning

The Police also confirmed that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) had invited AIG Moshood Jimoh for questioning over the allegations levelled against him.

According to the statement, the internal administrative review is intended to establish the facts surrounding the claims while ensuring accountability within the Force.

VeryDarkMan Also Invited

The Police further disclosed that the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, issued a formal invitation to VeryDarkMan on July 30, 2026, requesting that he appear before investigators and provide evidence to support the allegations he made publicly.

The Force maintained that the invitation was part of its commitment to conducting a fair and impartial investigation.

According to the Police, every credible allegation of misconduct will be thoroughly investigated, regardless of the rank of the officer involved or the public profile of the complainant.

The NPF emphasised that its actions demonstrate its resolve to uphold professionalism, transparency and accountability while allowing the judicial process to take its course without external interference.
