The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), has praised President Bola Tinubu for approving a 30 to 80 per cent salary increase for personnel of the Armed Forces, describing the decision as a significant step toward improving troop welfare and strengthening national security operations.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the minister thanked the President for approving what he described as a landmark salary review for military personnel.
According to Musa, the graduated salary increase demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to rewarding the sacrifices of officers and soldiers serving across the country.
“His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has once again demonstrated unwavering leadership and empathy for the brave men and women who put their lives on the line daily to preserve the peace and territorial integrity of our nation,” he said.
The Defence Minister noted that the review increases the Armed Forces’ annual personnel cost from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion, describing it as clear evidence that the administration is prioritising the welfare of military personnel.
“By raising the annual personnel cost from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion, the President has matched words with concrete action, proving that the welfare of our troops remains paramount,” Musa stated.
Boost to Security Operations
Musa expressed confidence that the improved remuneration would ease the financial burden on service personnel while enhancing morale and operational effectiveness.
He explained that better welfare would directly strengthen ongoing military campaigns against insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft and other security threats across the country.
“This reduction in financial hardship for our officers and soldiers will resonate across every theatre of operation—from troops confronting insurgency in the North-East to those tackling banditry, oil theft and kidnapping in other parts of the country,” he added.
The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces through improved welfare, modern equipment and policies aimed at enhancing national security and protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
