US President Donald Trump has rejected reports claiming the United States is running low on military munitions, insisting the country has ample weapons stockpiles while warning that officials responsible for leaking classified information could face lengthy prison sentences.

In a post on his Truth Social platform on Thursday, Trump dismissed media reports suggesting America’s arsenal had been significantly depleted during recent military operations.

“The United States has enormous quantities of munitions, especially certain types. More are being produced every day and delivered as needed,” the president wrote.

He also vowed to pursue those accused of leaking sensitive defence information, saying authorities were actively searching for those responsible.

“These leakers are being hunted down, and long-term jail sentences are being considered for these treasonous acts,” Trump said.

Trump’s comments come as his administration and the Pentagon face growing scrutiny over the readiness of the US military’s weapons stockpile, with concerns mounting as the conflict involving Iran enters its sixth month without a negotiated settlement.

The president specifically criticised a report by The Washington Post, which claimed he recently discussed potential weapons shortages with Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth. Trump dismissed the report as false and praised Hegseth’s leadership at the Pentagon.

The exact size of America’s missile inventory remains classified, although defence analysts have warned that recent military operations have placed increasing pressure on supplies of precision-guided weapons.

According to estimates by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the United States had used a significant portion of its Patriot and THAAD missile stockpiles by late July.

The think tank also projected that restoring inventories of some long-range weapons, including Tomahawk cruise missiles, could take several years due to lengthy production timelines.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials dismissed suggestions that the country had been weakened by the conflict, insisting Tehran remains fully capable of defending itself using domestically produced weapons.

Iran’s Defence Minister, Majid Ibn-e-Reza, said the country’s armed forces and defence industry remain prepared to respond decisively to any threat.

He argued that nations relying on imported military systems would eventually recognise the effectiveness of Iran’s indigenous defence technology.

The pressure on US weapons inventories is also being compounded by global demand from allies, including Ukraine, which has requested additional Patriot missile systems as it continues to defend itself against Russian attacks.

Although Trump acknowledged that approving further military assistance for Ukraine would be a major decision, he said discussions on the request are still ongoing.

Despite concerns raised by analysts, the administration continues to insist that America’s military remains adequately supplied.

“We have more munitions than anyone in the world—and far more than we need,” Trump said during remarks referenced by the Wall Street Journal last month.
