At least seven people have been killed in Russia following what Russian officials described as the largest-scale Ukrainian drone attack of the year, with hundreds of drones reportedly launched across several regions.
According to Russian authorities, approximately 822 drones were used in the overnight assault, including about 600 reportedly targeting the Moscow region.
Moscow’s regional governor described the attack as one of the most extensive drone assaults on the capital in recent memory.
Wildberries Warehouse Hit
A warehouse belonging to Wildberries, one of Russia’s largest online retailers, was also struck during the attacks.
The facility in Koledino, about 25 kilometres from central Moscow, was hit, injuring three people, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. Videos circulating online showed flames and a large plume of smoke rising from the warehouse.
Wildberries facilities have reportedly been targeted several times since July. Ukrainian authorities have previously said they were targeting logistics infrastructure allegedly used to facilitate the purchase and movement of military equipment.
Ukraine’s Defence Ministry said the latest strikes had disabled seven of the country’s 10 largest Wildberries logistics centres.
Deaths Reported Across Russia
Five people were reportedly killed in overnight strikes in Russia’s southwestern Rostov region, according to the regional governor.
In Belgorod, which borders Ukraine, officials said a woman was killed after a civilian bus came under attack.
An 83-year-old man was also reportedly killed in a drone attack in the Moscow region, Governor Andrey Vorobyov said.
Ukraine Also Reports Deadly Russian Strikes
The latest escalation came as Russia continues its intensified missile and drone attacks against Ukraine.
Ukrainian authorities said Russian attacks also killed at least seven people and injured more than 39 others.
The two sides have increasingly carried out long-range attacks, with Russia striking targets across Ukraine while Kyiv has stepped up drone operations against locations deep inside Russian territory.
Both Moscow and Kyiv continue to accuse each other of targeting civilian areas, while each side says its attacks are aimed at military or strategic infrastructure.
