The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Josiah Amupitan, has reassured Nigerians and political parties of the electoral body’s commitment to neutrality and impartiality during the 2027 general elections.

This assurance was made by Amupitan on Tuesday during the National Peace Accord organised in anticipation of the 2027 presidential election.

He emphasized that INEC does not favor any candidate or political party and will respect the voters’ choice across Nigeria.

Amupitan asserted that INEC maintains no interest in the outcome of elections, emphasizing the commission’s lack of preference for any candidate or political alignment.

**Amupitan Calls for Issue-Based Campaigns**

The INEC chairman encouraged political parties and candidates to focus on policy-driven and practical solutions during the 2027 election campaign, avoiding personal attacks, inflammatory rhetoric, or violence.

He highlighted the campaign period as an essential time for candidates to present their ideas and programs to Nigerians.

Amupitan urged for an election focused on constructive dialogue and ideas rather than conflict, stressing that Nigerians seek solutions to daily challenges rather than political insults and accusations.

He articulated a vision for campaign content that provides clear, actionable, and measurable manifestos.

**INEC Expands Preparations for 2027**

Furthermore, Amupitan revealed that preparations for the 2027 elections are advancing, with INEC enhancing its logistics and operational capabilities in readiness for the nationwide polls.

The commission is gearing up to manage a large temporary workforce necessary for conducting the elections countrywide.

Amupitan expressed satisfaction with the meticulous progress of preparations for the upcoming elections, noting efforts to scale up logistics to manage a vast ad hoc workforce of 1.4 million personnel across over 176,000 polling units.

As political parties and presidential hopefuls begin strategizing for the 2027 elections, INEC is under pressure to ensure that the electoral process remains transparent, credible, and fair. Amupitan’s commitment to neutrality is likely to be closely monitored by political entities and civil society groups as preparations continue.
