Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has weighed in on the 2027 presidential election.

Fayose said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would defeat Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi if they challenge him.

He spoke on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

‘What is their structure?’

Fayose questioned the political strength of Atiku and Obi in the Southwest.

He specifically mentioned Ekiti, Osun and Ondo states.

The former governor said Tinubu could secure a significant margin in the region.

He also questioned the opposition candidates’ ability to mobilise voters.

“Who will vote for them in Ekiti? Who will vote for them in Osun? Who will vote for them in Ondo?” Fayose asked.

He then added:

“What is their structure?”

Atiku and Obi could unite

Fayose also spoke about a possible alliance between Atiku and Obi.

He said joining forces would not, in his view, be enough to defeat Tinubu.

According to Fayose, Tinubu would still emerge victorious.

He said a separate contest by Atiku and Obi could make their challenge more difficult.

Fayose recalls Obasanjo

The former governor also referred to Obasanjo’s attempt to secure a third term.

Obasanjo eventually failed to extend his presidency beyond two terms.

Fayose said the episode was an example of Nigeria’s political realities.

He argued that political conventions can sometimes shape major contests.

Race for 2027

Political activity is increasing ahead of the 2027 election.

Parties are building alliances and strengthening their political structures.

Potential candidates are also seeking support across different regions.

Fayose’s prediction is now part of the wider political debate surrounding the next presidential election.
