Peter Obi, Kwankwaso Alliance Doomed to Fail, Says Ganduje

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has dismissed speculations about a possible political alliance between Labour Party’s Peter Obi and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, declaring that such a ticket would be “dead on arrival.”

Ganduje made the remarks while reacting to growing discussions about possible opposition coalitions ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to him, any attempt by opposition figures to unite against the APC would fail to gain the widespread support needed to unseat the ruling party.

The former Kano State governor argued that political alliances built solely on the ambition to wrest power from the APC, rather than on a shared ideology or national development agenda, are unlikely to succeed.

He maintained that the APC remains strong across the country and is well-positioned to retain power in the next general election. Ganduje also expressed confidence that the party’s leadership and ongoing reforms would continue to attract Nigerians.

Commenting on reports linking Kwankwaso with a possible partnership with Peter Obi, Ganduje insisted that such a combination lacked the political structure and nationwide appeal required to win a presidential election.

“The proposed ticket is dead on arrival,” he said, adding that the APC was not threatened by ongoing consultations among opposition leaders.

Political observers have noted that discussions surrounding opposition unity have intensified in recent months, with several prominent politicians exploring possible alliances aimed at presenting a formidable challenge in 2027. However, no official agreement has been announced by the parties involved.

Neither Peter Obi nor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has formally responded to Ganduje’s latest remarks.

As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the next election cycle, analysts expect coalition talks, party realignments, and strategic negotiations to dominate Nigeria’s political landscape over the coming months.
