In a significant operation, the Joint Task Force South East, under Operation UDO KA, successfully dismantled key IPOB strongholds in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State. This effort led to the recovery of weapons and materials used for crafting improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The operation, executed on Saturday, August 22, 2026, was a joint effort involving the Maritime Component of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Anambra Vigilante Group, as detailed in a statement from the task force.
Coordinated Dawn Offensive
Security forces carried out a well-coordinated dawn offensive targeting strongholds in Obene Village and Abator Village, located in the Ochuche and Umunankwo communities.
Upon noticing the advancing troops, suspected militants opened fire but soon retreated from their positions, fleeing into the surrounding terrain. The task force countered with superior firepower and pursued the assailants.
The operation resulted in one suspected militant being neutralized, while others reportedly escaped after retrieving the body of another who had also been neutralized.
Seizure of Weapons and IED Materials
The group’s presence was effectively removed from these locations, which were suspected to have served as bases for subsequent attacks. A thorough search of these strongholds uncovered:
– Two pump-action guns
– Two motorcycles
– IED-making materials
– Various other items linked to their activities
This raid is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle armed groups and prevent them from establishing operational bases in communities throughout the South-East. Security agencies are planning to maintain operations in this region while continuing their search for fleeing group members.
