Ugandan authorities have announced the closure of investigations involving former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, ending months of controversy over alleged corruption.

In May, Among was reportedly under house confinement in Kampala amid a corruption probe, during which her Rolls-Royce was seized.

Uganda’s military chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, shared on social media that President Yoweri Museveni had ordered Among’s release from house arrest.

“Our decision is not to prosecute AAA. She made mistakes, but Mzee has chosen to forgive her,” Kainerugaba stated, using Among’s initials.

Interestingly, Uganda’s anti-corruption body clarified that it never publicly announced any investigation into the former Speaker.

Among ascended to the role of Speaker of Parliament in March 2022 and is a significant figure in Museveni’s political sphere.

She has been the subject of corruption allegations over several years and has previously faced sanctions from both the United Kingdom and the United States.

This recent development has sparked renewed discussions about accountability, political influence, and the military’s role in Uganda’s governance system.

The allegations against Among remain unproven in court.
