The Kebbi State Police Command has reported that security operatives engaged in a gunfight with armed bandits at Makuku village in Zuru Emirate, near the border between Kebbi and Zamfara. The clash resulted in the deaths of 17 bandits.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, revealed in a statement on Tuesday that the bandits had entered the community intending to attack residents and possibly abduct some individuals.
According to Usman, the armed mobile police force promptly mobilized to the area upon receiving credible intelligence and engaged in an intense gun battle with the bandits.
He stated that at least 17 bandits were killed, and several others suffered gunshot wounds during the encounter.
The police spokesperson reported that the security operation resulted in significant losses, with 10 officers losing their lives during the gun battle. He also mentioned that several other officers were injured to varying extents and are currently undergoing medical treatment at a healthcare facility.
Usman stated, “Indeed, there was a gunfight between our forces and the bandits at Makuku village. Unfortunately, we lost 10 officers while over 17 bandits were killed.”
He stated that the officers who lost their lives in the line of duty “did not die in vain” and assured that those injured would receive the necessary medical care and support.
