The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported that over 1.9 million permanent voter cards (PVCs) have been collected in preparation for the Osun governorship election. According to a statement released on Thursday by Mohammed Haruna, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, this figure comes from a total of 2,339,233 registered voters in the state.
From this total, 1,906,390 PVCs, which account for 81.50 percent, have been picked up. The remaining 426,842 PVCs, representing 18.50 percent, have been securely kept at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), following the Commission’s standard procedures.
The statement also mentioned that individuals with damaged, defaced, or lost PVCs had applied for replacements. Consequently, 6,101 of those who applied have downloaded and printed copies of their PVCs. A detailed table showing the number of PVCs collected at each Polling Unit (PU) has been made available on INEC’s website.
INEC has reassured all political parties, civil society organizations, media, and the citizens of Osun State of its full preparedness to hold an election that is free, fair, credible, transparent, and inclusive on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
As the election day approaches, anticipation is reaching a peak among both the candidates and voters in Osun State. With only two days until the governorship election, the Nigeria Police is finalizing preparations by deploying thousands of officers across the state’s 30 local government areas to ensure a peaceful and credible voting process.
According to police sources and official statements, a minimum of four officers will be stationed at each of the 3,673 polling units, not including additional support from other agencies.
