Popular Nigerian activist Omoyele Sowore has criticised Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his recent meeting with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Davido and his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, visited Wike at his residence in Abuja on Thursday, days after the Osun State governorship election.

A video circulating on social media showed Davido engaging Wike in a light conversation about the outcome of the election.

Sowore Questions Davido’s Meeting With Wike

Reacting to the meeting, Sowore accused Nigerian politicians and their allies of putting political interests ahead of public concerns.

He questioned why Davido was meeting Wike despite the violence and deaths reported during the election period.

In a post on his X account, Sowore described Davido and others involved in the political engagement as “political hustlers.”

“Nigerian political hustlers will deceive the public, and the gullible will swallow the deception whole,” Sowore wrote.

He further criticised Davido for what he described as “genuflecting” before Wike, arguing that the meeting came shortly after political tensions surrounding the Osun election.

Violence Casts Shadow Over Osun Poll

The exchange comes amid reports of violence before and during the Osun governorship election.

Supporters linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Accord Party were reportedly killed during the election period.

Sowore said the political interactions following the election exposed what he described as underlying political interests among the major actors.

He accused political figures of publicly engaging in confrontations while maintaining relationships behind the scenes when their interests converge.

The comments have added to the debate surrounding the conduct of the Osun election and the political alliances emerging after the poll.
