Troops from the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have reportedly killed over 20 suspected terrorists during air operations in Borno State. These operations took place between the night of August 21 and the early hours of August 22, 2026, in Monguno and Biu Local Government Areas.

Based on credible intelligence and reconnaissance missions, the strikes targeted detected movements and concentrations of suspected terrorists. In Monguno LGA’s Aduwa region, an armed reconnaissance platform identified a large group, leading to precision strikes that neutralized about 16 suspects in two separate actions. Continued surveillance led to another engagement, eliminating approximately 10 more suspects.

In the Biu Local Government Area, around Buratai, another group was targeted and struck by an OPHK aircraft, resulting in the deaths of about 10 suspected terrorists.

Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, highlighted the effectiveness of the task force’s intelligence capabilities. The operations aim to prevent terrorist regrouping and movement, thus protecting communities and disrupting enemy structures. Non-kinetic efforts complement these military actions, including community engagement and encouraging surrenders, with recent increases in surrenders indicating mounting pressure on terrorist networks.

Residents in the North-East are urged to stay vigilant and share information on suspicious activities with security forces. Community cooperation is deemed crucial for early threat detection and consolidating security achievements, while Operation HADIN KAI remains committed to ongoing coordinated efforts to restore peace and economic activities in the region.
