Angry residents in Plateau State have criticised Governor Caleb Mutfwang following another deadly weekend of violence.

The residents want the governor to take more decisive steps to protect communities.

They said repeated statements condemning attacks were no longer enough.

Fresh Attacks Leave About 21 Dead

The latest criticism followed attacks reported across four local government areas.

About 21 people were reportedly killed between September 11 and September 13.

The affected areas include Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Jos South.

The attacks were reportedly carried out by suspected armed groups and local militia gangs.

Governor Promises Stronger Security

Governor Mutfwang responded by condemning the violence.

He said his administration was working with security agencies and community leaders to prevent further attacks.

According to the governor, the government has been using dialogue, intelligence sharing and community engagement as part of its security strategy.

He also said security personnel were tracking those responsible.

Mutfwang assured residents that his administration would continue working to create a safer environment.

Residents Say Enough Is Enough

Some residents, however, said the government’s response had not gone far enough.

During a radio programme, callers accused the administration of repeatedly issuing similar statements after attacks.

They argued that residents needed stronger action before attacks occur.

Activist Questions Governor’s Priorities

Social activist Nanle Bamshak said he was disappointed with the governor’s handling of the security situation.

He claimed Mutfwang had shifted attention toward his political future ahead of the 2027 election.

Bamshak said residents had supported the governor because they expected his administration to address the state’s long-running security problems.

‘Condolence Messages Are Not Enough’

Peter Alamba also criticised the government’s approach.

He said residents were tired of what he described as recurring press statements after killings.

Alamba called for proactive measures to break the cycle of violence.

His comments reflected the frustration of residents who want security agencies to prevent attacks instead of responding after lives have already been lost.

Political Pressure Grows

Polycarp Bitrus also accused the government of failing to adequately address insecurity.

He alleged that communities were being attacked while the governor continued to issue similar assurances.

John Fadung, another caller, said supporters who stood behind Mutfwang during the 2023 election were now disappointed.

The callers’ comments reflect their individual views and allegations. They do not independently establish that the governor has neglected his constitutional responsibilities.

Mutfwang Faces Fresh Security Test

The latest violence presents another major security challenge for the Plateau State government.

Mutfwang has maintained that his administration is committed to peace and the protection of lives and property.

Residents, however, want measurable results.

As pressure mounts, the key question will be whether the government’s security strategy can prevent further attacks and restore confidence among affected communities.
