Nigeria has been knocked out of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a 1-0 loss to Cameroon.
These two West African teams faced off in a quarter-final match on Sunday evening.
The match was settled by a spectacular free-kick from Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen in the 19th minute.
Despite the Super Falcons’ efforts to level the score and push the game into extra time, they couldn’t manage to score.
This outcome means Justine Madugu’s team will not be able to defend the title they claimed against Morocco in the last WAFCON.
Nigeria is now set to play South Africa on Thursday in Casablanca, competing for a spot in the Inter-Confederation playoff tournament.
