Cameroon’s women’s national football team arrived home to a hero’s reception on Monday after clinching the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a decisive 3–0 win against first-time participants Malawi.
Hundreds of joyful supporters gathered at Yaoundé International Airport to greet the new champions, their voices raised in song as they celebrated the team’s historic success.
The festivities continued as the Indomitable Lionesses paraded through the streets of Yaoundé, greeted by men, women, and children who lined the roads to cheer them on and celebrate their victory.
For many fans, this win symbolized more than just a football achievement, serving as a source of inspiration for Cameroonian women and girls.
The WAFCON final was graced by the presence of FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CAF President Patrice Motsepe, who joined other football dignitaries for the medal ceremony.
In the third-place play-off, Algeria emerged victorious over hosts Morocco on Saturday.
Cameroon’s forward Monique Ngock was also honored as the tournament’s Player of the Tournament.
