Minister of Defence Christopher Musa has expressed strong confidence in the electoral prospects of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections, dismissing suggestions that the ruling party is losing support in northern Nigeria.

Musa said the APC would win the presidential election as well as the governorship and other major elective positions in Kaduna State.

He spoke on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, following comments by Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso about the possibility of defeating the APC in the next presidential election.

Obi had told supporters that Nigerians would not allow their votes to be taken away through manipulation at polling stations.

Kwankwaso, meanwhile, argued that the APC’s control of more than 30 states would not automatically translate into victory at the presidential level. He pointed to the 2015 election, when Goodluck Jonathan was defeated despite his party’s strong political presence across the country.

But Musa maintained that talk of widespread rejection of the APC in the North was largely a matter of perception.

“That’s a perception. It’s a perception, and I mean, everybody has his own perception to deal with,” he said.

The minister was specifically asked whether the APC faced the possibility of losing Kaduna State in 2027.

Musa responded with confidence, saying, “APC will win in Kaduna. That I know.”

He subsequently confirmed that he was referring not only to the governorship election but also to the presidential and other contests.

“Definitely. Presidential, governorship, and all levels,” he stated.

Addressing claims that northern voters were becoming increasingly dissatisfied with President Bola Tinubu and his administration, Musa said some individuals could be attempting to stir public emotions because they were unhappy with their present situation.

“That’s why I said there are some people, because probably they are not where they think they are, the tendency is they want to whip up sentiments,” he said.

Musa also defended the policies of the Tinubu administration, arguing that the government had been willing to take difficult decisions in pursuit of long-term economic improvements.

According to the minister, the results of those measures would gradually become visible.

The exchange reflects the increasingly competitive political environment ahead of 2027, with the APC seeking to defend its hold on power while opposition figures work to build support around an alternative political platform.

The political claims and predictions made by the various actors remain subject to the outcome of the 2027 elections.
