The race for Nigeria’s 2027 presidency has taken another step forward with the release of the final list of presidential candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
INEC listed candidates submitted by 18 political parties.
Among the prominent names are President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Seyi Makinde.
The document was signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony and published on Saturday.
Major Parties Name Candidates
President Tinubu will seek another term under the All Progressives Congress.
He will be accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate.
Atiku Abubakar is listed under the African Democratic Congress.
His running mate is former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
Peter Obi is listed as the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is named as his running mate.
Seyi Makinde is also among the candidates listed by the electoral commission.
He is presented under the Allied Peoples Movement, with Musa Lawal Daura as his running mate.
Sowore, Duke and Other Candidates
The list features several other presidential hopefuls.
Omoyele Sowore is representing the African Action Congress, with Haruna Garba Magashi as his running mate.
Former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke is the candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party.
He is paired with Kabiru Rabiu.
Adewole Ebenezer Adebayo is contesting under the Social Democratic Party, with Usman Muhammed Bugaje as his running mate.
The Young Progressives Party is represented by Peter Ada Agada.
Patience Ndidi Key is listed as his running mate.
Daniel Daberechukwu Nwanyanwu is the Zenith Labour Party candidate.
His running mate is Hassan Khalid.
Other Names on the Ballot
Sunday Chibuzo Okereke is listed for the Labour Party alongside Hajja Bintu Konto.
Sandy Ojang Onor is the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, with Umaru Babangida as his running mate.
INEC also listed Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje of the Action Alliance and Aliyu Abbas-Bin of the Action Democratic Party.
Kabiru Yusuf is representing the Action Peoples Party.
Moses Olusoji Adebisi is listed for the Democratic Labour Alliance.
Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori is the candidate of the National Democratic Party.
Nkem Esther Okereke is representing the National Rescue Movement.
Sunday Adenuga is listed for the Boot Party.
Accord, APGA and Youth Party Opt Out
According to the INEC document, Accord, the All Progressives Grand Alliance and the Youth Party did not submit presidential candidates for the 2027 election.
The electoral commission also displayed candidate lists for National Assembly elections in the Federal Capital Territory.
Eighteen parties have candidates for the FCT Senate seat.
Another 38 candidates are listed for the two House of Representatives constituencies.
The release of the presidential list now provides a clearer picture of the political field ahead of the 2027 general elections.
