The political battle ahead of the 2027 presidential election has taken another turn after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, launched a fresh criticism of Peter Obi.
Onanuga described the former Anambra governor as “overhyped and overrated.”
He also questioned Obi’s record in office and his readiness to lead Nigeria.
Onanuga: Obi Lacks Governance Experience
The presidential aide made the comments in a post on X on Saturday.
He argued that popularity alone does not qualify anyone to govern Nigeria.
According to Onanuga, Obi’s supporters believe he can transform the country despite what he described as an inadequate governance record.
He wrote that Obi was a “spectacular failure” as Anambra governor and accused him of being clueless.
Onanuga added that governance requires more than promises or public enthusiasm.
‘Governance Is Not by Magic’
The presidential aide also questioned the former governor’s suitability for the presidency.
“Now gunning for a higher office, his supporters think he can perform a miracle. How? Governance is not by magic,” he wrote.
Onanuga said a presidential candidate should be able to point to a strong record of leadership.
He argued that Obi does not have the governance pedigree required for the nation’s highest political office.
Political Battle Ahead of 2027
Onanuga further accused Obi of changing his positions and allowing his social media supporters to influence his political worldview.
His remarks come as political parties and potential presidential contenders prepare for the 2027 election.
Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, remains a major figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics.
The latest criticism from the presidency is likely to add to the growing debate over the records and credentials of politicians positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential race.
