The Plateau State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition during a security operation in Kanke Local Government Area.
The suspects, both natives of Nyinang Village in the Amper District of Kanke LGA, were apprehended on August 2, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation launched after a reported kidnapping incident.
Confirming the development in a statement on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, said the Command received a distress report on August 1 regarding the abduction at the Kanke Police Division.
According to him, the Divisional Police Officer immediately deployed a team of detectives, who worked alongside other security agencies to rescue the victims and track down those behind the crime.
The operation led to the arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle with 30 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
Alabo disclosed that the suspects are currently in police custody, while the Command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) has intensified investigations to identify and arrest other members of the kidnapping syndicate and recover additional weapons.
The Acting Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu, commended residents for their vigilance and continued support for security agencies.
He urged members of the public to sustain their cooperation by providing timely and credible information that could assist law enforcement agencies in tackling criminal activities across the state.
The police also reiterated the importance of community participation in crime prevention, encouraging residents to remain alert and promptly report suspicious movements or activities.
According to the Command, public support remains crucial in strengthening ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes in Plateau State.
