Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has met with victims recently freed from captivity after the violent incident in Woro community, located in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
The governor visited the released abductees at the 2 Division Medical Facility of the Nigerian Army in Sobi Barracks, Ilorin, where they are receiving medical treatment and beginning their initial rehabilitation after enduring approximately six months in captivity.
These individuals were saved on Wednesday through a significant security operation led by the Nigerian military and other allied security forces. Recent data indicates that 163 out of the 176 people abducted from Woro were successfully liberated, along with 145 other captives from neighboring Niger State, summing up to 308 rescued individuals overall.
The freed victims spent Wednesday night at a military base in Niger State before being transported to Ilorin on Thursday night under stringent security measures. Governor AbdulRazaq expressed his gratitude to the security forces for their effective operation and reassured the rescued victims that the state government will provide ongoing support as they embark on recovery and reunification with their families.
He also promised the provision of essential medical, psychological, and welfare support to assist them in overcoming the trauma experienced during their prolonged captivity. The rescue came after months of persistent military offensives targeting terrorists around the Kainji Lake National Park and its surrounding forests, believed to be where the abductees were held.
