Nigerians have called on the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to promptly arrest Senator Fadahunsi from Osun East Senatorial District. This demand comes in response to alleged threats against Accord Party members as the state’s governorship election approaches this Saturday.
A video making the rounds on social media purports to depict an All Progressives Congress (APC) legislator speaking to party supporters in Ilesa who were protesting claimed attacks on APC members. According to reports, the senator is seen urging APC supporters in the video to challenge Accord Party members whenever they encounter them and prevent them from voting in the election.
These purported comments have sparked widespread outrage, leading many Nigerians to demand the senator’s immediate arrest and prosecution. This situation has further heightened concerns about voter safety during the election.
Babafemi Ojudu, a leader in the APC, responded by calling on the IGP to act swiftly, describing the remarks as unacceptable in a democracy. He stated on his official Facebook page, “Such comments cannot be tolerated under democratic governance. Even during military regimes, an officer would not speak this way.” He added, “IGP Tunde Disu, it’s now your move. We are waiting for action.”
In a similar vein, Osun State Governor and Accord Party candidate in the election, Ademola Adeleke, demanded the swift arrest and prosecution of the senator. He stressed that this matter goes beyond politics and represents a national security threat requiring intervention from President Bola Tinubu via the Office of the National Security Adviser. “I have brought this issue to the attention of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and insisted on an immediate investigation into Senator Fadahunsi’s actions. The IGP has reviewed the video evidence and assured me that prompt measures will be taken,” stated Adeleke.
Numerous other Nigerians have turned to social media to express their demands for the lawmaker’s arrest.
In response, Fadahunsi refuted the claims during an interview with TVC News on Tuesday night, stating that the viral video had been artificially created. He claimed, “The video being spread by Davido and his group is generated using AI.”
