OSOGBO — The Accord Party is in a strong position to retain the Osun State governorship as incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke maintains a lead of 66,244 votes over the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in the latest collation of results.

Results compiled from INEC Form EC8A show that Accord has so far secured 491,975 votes, representing 51.9 per cent, while APC has recorded 425,731 votes, representing 44.9 per cent.

Adeleke Maintains Strong Lead

Adeleke has maintained a significant advantage throughout the collation process, with his lead remaining at approximately seven percentage points as results from different parts of the state were added.

Additional results from areas including Ife, Ede, Osogbo and Iwo have not substantially narrowed the gap between the two leading candidates.

With about 130 polling units yet to be accounted for, the figures currently place Adeleke in a commanding position. However, the final outcome remains subject to the completion of the official collation process.

Adeleke is seeking a second term after initially winning the Osun governorship election in 2022 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He later moved to the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 election.

If confirmed by INEC, the victory would represent the first governorship election win for the Accord Party in Osun State.

INEC Yet to Declare Winner

Despite Adeleke’s substantial lead, the INEC State Collation and Returning Officer has not officially declared a winner.

Under Nigeria’s electoral rules, a governorship candidate must not only obtain the highest number of votes but must also satisfy the required geographical spread before being declared elected.

The 2026 election had 15 political parties on the ballot, although two candidates—Adesina Adeyemi-Doro of APGA and Simon Adewale of APM—announced their withdrawals before the election.

For now, attention remains focused on the remaining results and the final declaration by INEC.
