US President Donald Trump has threatened military action against Oman if the nation interferes with Washington’s efforts to negotiate with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump issued this warning during an interview with Fox News journalist Trey Yingst, mentioning separate negotiations between Oman and Iran about navigating the strategic waterway.
“If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the shit out of them,” Trump stated.
Iran and Oman have been engaged in talks for several weeks regarding maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. On Monday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that Tehran and Muscat are working on a joint declaration regarding the waterway.
This development arises as Trump reiterates claims that the strategically important strait should effectively come under US control. On Friday, Trump reportedly suggested he might even declare the Strait of Hormuz as part of US territory, prompting a strong reaction from Tehran. Iran maintained that the waterway “will remain Iranian.”
Before this latest conflict, the Strait of Hormuz was considered an international waterway and served as a vital route for global energy shipments and other commodities. Iran has used its control over the strait as leverage amid escalating tensions with the United States, which is pressuring Tehran over its military capabilities and nuclear program.
Trump has urged Iran to capitulate as Washington continues to seek negotiations while maintaining pressure on Tehran. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes, meaning any prolonged disruption could have significant consequences for global energy markets and international trade.
