Security forces have rescued a group of traders abducted along a major road in Katsina State.
The operation was carried out by troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, following an alert about a terrorist attack.
Terrorists Abandon Captives After Gun Battle
The incident occurred along the Funtua–Faskari axis.
Terrorists reportedly stopped a commercial vehicle carrying traders and forced the passengers into the bush.
Troops responded after receiving a distress call.
They moved quickly to the area and pursued the attackers into the surrounding forest.
A firefight followed.
Unable to withstand the military response, the terrorists reportedly withdrew deeper into the forest.
They left the abducted traders behind.
The troops recovered the victims without injuries and escorted them to Sheme Market.
The traders were later reunited with their communities.
Two Arrested Over Stolen Vehicle
Meanwhile, troops conducting another operation in Katsina made two arrests.
The operation took place along the Katsina–Dutsin-Ma highway in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area.
Acting on intelligence, the troops, alongside the Nigeria Police Force, intercepted a stolen gold-coloured Toyota Corolla.
Two men were arrested during the operation.
They were identified as Abdulmalik Haruna, 28, and Mohammed Kabir, 44.
The recovered vehicle was also taken into custody.
The suspects and the car were handed over to officers at the Dutsin-Ma Police Division.
They will assist with further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stolen vehicle.
The latest operations highlight continued efforts by security agencies to tackle terrorism, kidnapping and other criminal activities in Katsina State.
