Political commentator and Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Sam Amadi, has identified what he considers the key requirement for the Igbo to produce Nigeria’s President.
In a post shared on X, Amadi said “dignity” was the only pathway to an Igbo presidency.
‘Path Called Dignity’
Amadi argued that political power should not be pursued without dignity.
“I have said it before, the only pathway to Igbo presidency in Nigeria is a path called ‘dignity’,” he wrote.
He added a statement in Igbo, which he translated as questioning the value of life without dignity.
His comments come as politicians and supporters continue to discuss possible presidential arrangements ahead of the 2027 election.
Calls for South-East Presidency
The South-East’s demand for the presidency has been part of Nigeria’s political debate during recent election cycles.
There were calls for a South-East presidential candidate during the 2019 and 2023 elections.
Peter Obi featured prominently in that debate.
In 2019, he served as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate on the PDP ticket.
Four years later, Obi contested the presidency himself under the Labour Party.
He finished third in the 2023 election, behind Atiku and Tinubu.
2027 Political Realignment
Obi is set to make another presidential bid in 2027 on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, according to the report.
The development comes as political parties and opposition figures continue to position themselves ahead of the next presidential election.
Amadi’s statement adds another perspective to the ongoing debate over regional representation and the prospects of an Igbo presidency.
