Iran’s Army says large numbers of ground troops remain deployed along the country’s borders, with special forces, rapid-response units, artillery and mechanised formations maintaining a high level of readiness.
The announcement was made by Brigadier General Ali Jahanshahi, commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces, as tensions continue following the February 28 U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran.
Jahanshahi said the military has maintained forces across several border areas in response to potential security threats.
Special and mechanised units remain deployed
According to Iranian military officials, the deployment covers several parts of the country.
The forces include special operations personnel, rapid-response teams, mechanised units and artillery formations.
Jahanshahi said the units remain at a high level of combat readiness.
Iran’s Army has also reported deployments along the northwest, west, southwest, east, northeast and southeast of the country, as well as along the Makran coast and the Gulf of Oman.
Reconnaissance drone reported downed
On Sunday, Iran also announced that its air-defence forces had intercepted a reconnaissance drone over the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian Army said the drone was an OrbitER reconnaissance drone and that it was destroyed at about 6:30 p.m. by domestically developed air-defence systems based in southeastern Iran.
The announcement came as the strategically important waterway remains at the centre of the regional security crisis.
Hormuz remains a major concern
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime routes for energy shipments.
Recent shipping data reported by Reuters showed a sharp reduction in commercial vessel traffic through the strait on Monday, September 21, compared with normal pre-conflict levels.
The development highlights the wider impact of the continuing confrontation beyond the immediate military deployments.
Iran maintains readiness
Iranian commanders have repeatedly said that forces stationed along the country’s borders are prepared to respond to potential threats.
For Tehran, the deployment is part of its broader effort to maintain security along its extensive land and coastal borders.
The latest statements come as diplomatic and military tensions in the region remain fluid.
