Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliot has made a public apology to Femi Gbajabiamila following a disagreement over the APC primary election in Surulere.

A video shared on social media shows Elliot kneeling before the President’s Chief of Staff while asking for forgiveness.

The lawmaker also appealed to the APC leadership to accept him back into the party’s political fold in Lagos.

‘I’m deeply sorry’

Elliot expressed regret over his conduct during the political dispute.

He said he had no justification for what happened.

“I’m sorry, I have no excuse. I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry.”

He also said he hoped to learn from the incident and conduct himself better in future.

What caused the disagreement?

The dispute followed the APC primary held in May to choose its candidate for Surulere Constituency I.

Elliot initially took part in the exercise.

However, he later withdrew.

The lawmaker claimed that intimidation and political pressure were used against his supporters during the process.

He subsequently rejected the result.

Elliot also said he would pursue his concerns through the party’s appeal process.

Odunuga-Bakare emerges winner

Barakat Odunuga-Bakare eventually secured the APC ticket.

She polled 11,385 votes in the primary.

Elliot recorded 270 votes.

Odunuga-Bakare was widely believed to have the backing of Gbajabiamila.

The result deepened the political disagreement surrounding the primary.

Elliot seeks a fresh start

The latest apology could signal an attempt to settle the dispute.

By kneeling before Gbajabiamila, Elliot appeared to be seeking reconciliation with a key figure in the Lagos APC structure.

He also appealed to be accepted back into the party’s fold.

The development could help ease tensions following the contentious primary.

It also comes at a time when political alliances and internal party relationships are becoming increasingly important ahead of the next election cycle.

For now, Elliot’s apology marks a notable change in tone after his earlier decision to challenge the primary process.
